Description

Takesi is the ideal journey to start discovering these trails in a slow and progressive way, including Bolivia’s history and ecological wealth.

This is one of the Inca trails, part of a road system that goes into the valleys (Yungas) of what is now the department of La Paz.

It is a beautiful journey in which we are able to see the most diverse landscapes. This extensive road system facilitated the exchange of tropical products with high plateau products. It was there, in the high plateau, where the great local cultures were located.

Along the charming paths, we will discover several Inca ruins and some of other cultures surrounded by exuberant vegetation, which calls to the mind El Dorado.

The trail is located between Murillo (Ventilla) and Sud Yungas (Mina Chojlla) provinces, covering about 50 km. Takesi’s old route was much longer, but today many stretches have been lost due to the lack of preservation or because the undergrowth has swallowed them.

Itinerary 1

  • Day 1:
    La Paz - Takesi

Departure from La Paz on a private vehicle heading for San Francisco Mine, where we meet our team of muleteers. Once we load the mules, we start walking toward the highest pass of our expedition (4650 m.a.s.l.). After that, we start descending to the valley of Yungas, appreciating the change in flora and fauna of the landscapes. After a five to seven-hour trek, we arrive at our first camp.

  • Day 2:
    Takesi - Kakapi

We start the trek early, during the descent we go through pre-Hispanic ruins and cross diverse vegetation: brackens, dwarf orchids and many others before we arrive at Kakapi.

  • Day 3:
    Kakapi - Chulumani

Starting from this place, the path turns flatter, as we cross streams. Civilization becomes more and more evident. Finally, we arrive at the village of Yanacachi, where our vehicle will be awaiting to drive us to Chulumani, village where we will spend the night.

  • Day 4:
    Chulumani - La Paz

After breakfast we have the morning off to take a walk along the village or to buy souvenirs. Nearly at noon, we depart to La Paz.
